The team at Azura Memory Care of Manitowoc went all out with a Surprise 60th Anniversary Party for one of our residents, Delores, and her husband, Eddy. While using Delores’ Life Story Book, a team member, Sheila, discovered this significant date. Together, the team decided to throw a surprise party for the couple and really went above and beyond to replicate details of their wedding day.
Sheila styled Delores’s hair exactly how it was in her wedding picture. Laquesha fixed her make up, and cooked the couple’s favorite meal. Laquesha and Leah Zehel, Executive Director, decorated a beautiful table setting with their wedding pictures, rose petals, and a bottle of sparkling Champaign. Becky and Barb created flower bouquets and dressed up as bridesmaids. They even wore big hats just as the bridesmaids wore on the couple’s wedding day. Holly not only invited Eddy’s sister, Rose, but she also arranged transportation for her to attend the party. Holly made Delores a veil similar to her original. Leah invited the families of our other residents as many of them are now friends of the couple.
When Eddy walked through the door, he had no idea. First, he saw his sister and asked, “How did you get here?” Surprise!
Jim blessed the couple and all those that gathered with a beautiful wedding prayer and a toast that didn’t leave a dry eye in the house. Following dinner, Ann Lensmire sang a solo, “I’ll Stand By You.”
By far, the best part of the day was the joy it brought Delores. Delores spoke and smiled more than anyone has heard in the last year. She felt beautiful and knew it was a special day. At the end, she grabbed Eddy’s hand and said, “I like you.” He kissed her and said, “I like you too.”
This truly represents all of Azura Memory Care’s Core Values:
