On Friday, Azura Memory Care had the opportunity to engage one of our residents in a “Round to Remember” and make an amazing dream come true.
Warren’s day was a complete success with him playing all 9 holes and smiling the entire way! His story on the evening news has made him a bit of celebrity, which he also loves, but it has also reunited him with a long-lost friend who he hasn’t seen in over 20 years! His love for the game has definitely returned with him making plans on how to improve his game and get back out on the course. It is amazing to me that when we started on this quest he was barely walking and now his jest for life is overflowing!!!
A huge thank you to Neal from Interim Healthcare for taking beautiful photos, to Dave with Morley Golfclubs for making him an amazing set of clubs and being a tremendous coach, to the workers at Hickory Hills Golf Course who ensured that we had the back 9 to ourselves, to Awards and More for the trophy he proudly displays in his room, to the Azura Team for his special Master’s green jacket and to Joe from WEAU-TV who not only came along for the ride, but created a beautiful tribute to Warren and his dream day! If you need a quick pick me up, here’s a link to the story.
Warren’s dream to golf again became a reality because so many in our community came together to lend a hand and recognized that even with terminal diagnosis like dementia there is much life left to be lived! Our Team learned a great deal through this process, but the biggest thing we realized is that we all have the ability to make a difference…sometimes we just have to take the time to listen, engage others in the dream and realize that when you come from a place of “yes” you CAN!
Thanks everyone for coming along for this dream ride.
