What would your best day be? For one Azura Memory Care resident, it was “to go to an ice skating show.” To some, this may have been no surprise because this was something she loved to do with her family long before her diagnosis.
Deemed an ice-skating aficionado, she would always tune-in to watch the figure skaters during the Olympics; mesmerized by their movements, sparkling costumes, and level of poise.
While a big fan of the sport, she had always dreamed of becoming an ice skater. Through our MOSAIC Dreams program and with the help of the Mosinee Silverblades Figure Skating Club, we were able to make this dream a reality.
The Mosinee Figure Skating Club welcomed the opportunity to have her be a special part of their annual recital “Under the Big Top,” welcoming her with a VIP backstage experience and a chance to meet some of the skaters before the show. The skaters shared their personal histories with the sport and what they loved about it, some having been involved with the sport for 10+ years. By the end of this special meeting, she was ready to throw on a costume and a pair of skates and get out there with the girls.
She and her entourage, including her daughter and Azura team members, were given complimentary tickets and were able to sit front row to enjoy the show. Before the opening number, the skating club gave a special shout-out to their honorary guest and brought her a beautiful white rose to make the moment extra special.
As the recital went on, the wonderment that was seen on her face and the many smiles shared between her and her daughter revealed that she had realized her dream. The wonderment continued when she received the opportunity to get out on the ice and do a few celebratory spins. In that moment, she was living her dream and was experiencing one of her best days.
A special thank you to the Mosinee Silverblades Figure Skating Club for making this DREAM possible and thank you to Second Wind Dreams for partnering with us and inspiring us to help our residents experience their best days. Lastly, thank you to the Azura of Wausau team for all of their efforts in helping make this DREAM come true.
