Love Flows at Azura Memory Care

Valentine’s Day comes but once a year, so ensuring our Azura Memory Care residents can let the love flow is very important to us and to their families. As a result our Team dives into the glitter and glue helping them make personalized Valentine’s for that special someone or makes personalized card’s just for them. Together they decorated cookies and our homes to get ready for the special festivities that surrounded this special day.

This heart day is especially poignant for our Azura family, as one of the philosophies taught during our MOSAIC Training is to honor the “Heart-Brain” connection, which lasts far into the dementia disease process. According to the Institute of HeartMath Research Center, the heart has neurons similar to that of the brain. These neurons are not affected by dementia and can store feeling memories far longer than that of the actual brain.

Feeling memories are those that allow one to internally recognize the voice or touch of a loved one and offer then a smile, even when their cognitive head brain can no longer place their name or personhood. In essence the heart of the person, in the later stages of the disease, is still able to feel that they know or go with their loved one. In fact, studies show that often the bodily functions are affected by the Heart-Brain as well, often helping to regulate the heartbeat and breathing all thanks to the Heart-Brain connection.

By using our residents’ personal likes, history and joys our Team is able to tap into the Heart-Brain connection and make those within our family of care feel more at ease and create those magical moments that bring forth the best smiles!

Here are just a few of the special magical moments of joy and love our Team, residents, families and friends found to spread the love and keep it flowing all year round!

It is so good to see how my father in law, Raymond Arndt, gets so happy when he has his princesses with him. Thank you all at Azura Wausau for taking such wonderful care of him.
